"In house" vs Out Source

We have a national In-house printing department. Generally we use it to print internal communications and other non-branding related materials. But recently i was made aware that our In-house printing department got a new digital printer and the result looks great. Now i'm thinking of printing some low volume targeted communications material In-house. What would stop me from doing so? Considering quality, cost and speed?
